I was not expecting to find a 9 year old Mos Def LP at my local antique mall while I was sifting through record crates hoping to find something. So… I picked it up, I felt the $14 dollar price tag was reasonable enough. I am somewhat familiar with Mos Def’s rap work. 199’s Black on Both Sides was his debut and from what I recall received some acclaim. So 2004’s New Danger is a grander album, sprawled out onto 2 lps and clocks in around 74 minutes. I like the live arrangements but I find the tracks with heavy rock guitar work seem to trap those songs in that era…. But yeah, 9 years later I feel this album still holds up.
