Fade – Yo La Tengo

Yo La Tengo have a new album out, their 13th, titled Fade. This album is a mellow affair. A calm soundtrack to a Sunday afternoon as Winter is tapering off and Spring is coming on. But really, at ten songs this album is short, but that isn’t a bad thing. It’s extremely focused and each song moves along at a pace that allows the listener to never divert attention. This is Yo La Tengo now. From the opening track Ohm until the last track Before We Run Fade does what it needs to do. There are no extended jams or slight diversions during the 46 minutes. Just a straight forward linear listening experience. If you picked up the deluxe vinyl edition you are treated to an additional 7″ that includes two cover tracks-Times New Viking’s “Move to California” and Tod Rundgren’s “I Saw the Light”. This album is a great album and so far one of my repeats listens during this early part of the new year.
